The great Hubble Space Telescope has enabled us to see vast and wide ranges of the universe. 3 days ago it encountered a major Glitch in its system. Engineers are doing their best to restore Hubble to its original shape.

Rich History

The idea of a Space Telescope began in 1940. After decades of working it was finally launched on April 24, 1990. Since then it has been working as humanity's eyes into the unknown. It was named after Edwin Hubble who confirmed the theory of expanding universe. It is stationed at an Orbit, the attitude of 340 miles. It moves at a speed of 27000 km per hour. It gave its first image on May 20, 1990.
  •  In 1991, Hubble took an image of Jupiter with the red spot.
  •  In 1993, it estimated the age of the universe to be 10 billion to 20 billion.
  •  Also in 1994, it confirmed the existence of supermassive black holes.
  •  Again in 1995, astronomers found oxygen on Jupiter's moon Europa using Hubble.
  •  In 2018, Hubble helped a lot in studying the interstellar object Oumuamua that passed our solar system
Service missions
Hubble was the first telescope in an orbit that can be accessed by astronauts, that is astronauts can travel to repair parts and to update its Technology. In order to enhance the capability of Hubble, there were five service missions. They all happened in 1993, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2009. All of these service missions are carried by space shuttles.
Hubble will be replaced by its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope in 2021. This Space Telescope is far more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope.

Hubble celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2020. The above image is released on its anniversary.

What's wrong with Hubble now?

Since June 16, 2021, Hubble has turned itself into safe mode. It has turned itself off after the computers reported a problem. This is the computer that controls the science instruments on Hubble. This computer has a central processing module. The Hubble Space Telescope team has been working on the computer that stopped on June 13. NASA said the science instruments and telescope is in good health. They also tried to switch on the backup computer but still no success.

The Hubble team then try to restore the memory module as it was showing errors. But they couldn't do it either. The memory module and three backup systems didn't work. The new backup computer also showed the same errors. This shows that Hubble is in some deep trouble.
Conclusion
The fate of this telescope is unknown. NASA says there won't be a quick fix. In a few months time Hubble will be replaced by the James Webb Space Telescope. This telescope has the ability to see far beyond such as the condition of the universe during the Big Bang. Even so, we are keeping our fingers crossed and the only thing we can do is hope that Hubble will be alright
