Space Agencies Budget

Why do people think it's a waste of money?

When people think about space travel all that comes to their mind is billions of dollars being spent just to explore space. They think these billions of dollars can be used to solve world hunger, poverty, and homelessness.

To be frank, they are not wrong; In fact, a huge number of the population is still in poverty and a whole lot of people don't have homes. It's true, but you should know the statistics of what's in play here.

The budget

Let's start with the biggest space agency, NASA

What do you think is the budget of NASA? You may think it may be about 20 or 10% of the yearly US budget. Most people think the same way too.

But actually, it is not even 5%. NASA is given only 0.5% of the US budget. Now you may say that's a lot of billions of dollars, we may use it to fight poverty.

Let me say one thing, the US military gets about 16% of the US budget. In the military, We are spending trillions of dollars just fighting against each other. 60% of the yearly US budget goes to Health Care. So what's 60% compared to 0.5%.

Out of the 18 billion dollars they get, not all of them go into building rockets. Much of this budget goes into the salary of scientists and to develop breakthrough research projects to enhance human life.

NASA is getting a lot of budget cuts in recent years. Some people don't even think global warming is a real thing. They think it's a hoax. We can't do much about them.

Why it's necessary?

By Satellite Technology, we now have the ability to monitor crop cultivation, foresee disasters before much damage.

You may think NASA doesn't help poverty, but NASA Satellites are playing a great role in the development of food production in many countries.

NASA has made available this data from the satellites free for all countries, in order to develop their agriculture. NASA is also figuring out a way to solve global warming to keep climate change in check.

How it benefits you?

You may think, what do I get in this? Well, most of the things you use now came as a result of the space program.

If there was no space program we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. The internet has developed to this level because of NASA.

The sensors in selfie cameras came from satellite Technology. You wouldn't be having shoe insoles.

If you want to know a lot about how space Agencies help you in your daily life, please check out this website called home and city by NASA. This website shows you how space programs have an impact on your life.

Also, huge images on the GigaPan website are a byproduct of the mars rover Camera. That said, there is nothing in your modern life there isn't discovered due to space exploration.

mars exploration

Why going to mars is important?

At first, mars exploration takes a lot of money and work. But in the long term, this might act as an insurance policy for people on Earth.

In 5 billion years, the earth will be devoured by the sun and we would have to move on. You might say we have 5 billion years, we would have found a lot of planets by then.

Keep in mind there are a lot of asteroids, these asteroids could wipe out entire planets in an instant. The dinosaurs didn't have rocket technology so they couldn't survive, but we now have rocket technology, that we could use to explore other planets and colonize them.

Conclusion

Even with this, the most important thing is that space exploration will inspire the next generation to explore and imagine in a greater way.
