Top 10 Mars Rovers Ever Existed
A lot of countries have tried to send orbiters to Mars. But only a few countries tried to send rovers to the red planet. Let's take a look at the top 10 Mars Rovers
10. Mars 3: Prop M Rover
Launched in: 1971 by ROSCOSMOS
Primary objective: To test the strength of materials on Mars
This Prop M Rover is the first rover on Mars. It carried about 2 instruments, Penetrometer, and a gamma-ray densitometer.
It is about the size of a 25cm box.
Unfortunately after 20 seconds of landing on Mars; It lost contact with Earth. The reason is unknown.
9. Sample Fetch Rover
Launching in: 2026 by NASA
Primary objective: To return the samples back to the Ascent Vehicle
This rover will gather the rock samples. These samples are then given to the ascent vehicle which in turn sends them to Earth.
8. Sojourner
Launched in: 1977 by NASA
Primary objective: To study the conditions of a vehicle suitable for otherworldly exploration
It has a length of about 65 cm. The maximum distance it covered is about 500 meters.
It has an average speed of about 1cm/s

7.Spirit
Launched in: 2003 by NASA
Primary objective: To study and analyze materials, rocks, and soil
Spirit operated from 2004 to 2010. It has about 9 scientific payloads onboard. Spirit gave the first color images of Mars.
6.Opportunity
Launched in: 2003 by NASA
Primary objective: To learn the geological conditions when water was present
Opportunity is the twin of Spirit. It operated from 2003 to 2018. It studied meteorites and Victoria Crater.
This is one of NASA's most successful missions.
5. JAXA MELOS
Launching in: 2022 by JAXA
Primary objective: To demonstrate landing and to study biosignatures on Mars
This mission is said to have an Orbiter, 4 landers, a Rover, and an experimental Aircraft. All these will be launched on a single rocket.
4.Zhurong Rover
Launched in: 2020 by CNSA
Primary objective: To study Martian soil and to examine Topography
This is the first rover send by China. It has 6 scientific instruments and 4 solar panels
This Rover sent some amazing pictures. For images from Zhurong Rover, click here

3.Exomars 2022
Launching in: 2022 by ESA- ROSCOSMOS
Primary objective: To search for morphological and chemical signatures
This rover will carry a 2m long surface drill. This rover is also named Rosalind Franklin Rover.
It can drive up to 70 meters on a single martian day.
2.Curiosity
Launched in: 2011 by NASA
Primary objective: To find if Mars had ever supported life
Curiosity is one of the biggest rovers to land on Mars. It is also called the Mars Science Laboratory.
Unlike other rovers, it didn't use Solar Power. It runs on a Thermoelectric Generator.
It has a cost of 3.2 billion dollars
